CATEGORY 1: HTC Music instrumental contest
(Piano, Winds, Strings, percussions, etc)
HTC Music Instrumental contest is open to school students and young adults of all nationalities and countries.
All instruments, including Western music instruments (Piano, Winds, Brass, strings, and percussion) , Traditional ethnic music instruments, and chamber music group.
Participants are required to submit video recording of recent performance for the audition.
Eligibility:
We invite school students and young adults to participate in the contest.
Multiple winner will be chosen in each of the following age groups:
ELEMENTARY
Ages 8 and Under
Maximum time for the Competition: 5 minutes
JUNIOR
Ages 9 – 12
(2nd/+ contestants may be younger) Maximum time for the Competition: 7 minutes
INTERMEDIATE
Ages 13 – 17
(2nd/+ contestants may be younger) Maximum time for the Competition: 7 minutes
SENIOR
Ages 18 – 32
(2nd/+ contestants may be younger) Maximum time for the Competition: 8 minutes
Awards:
Winners will perform on July 30th.
Scholarship, Judges’s favorite Award Trophy, Judges’ Distinction Award Trophy and other special awards may be granted based on judges recommendations.
Judges:
A panel of qualified judges will evaluate audition materials. All judges are independent, their students are not allowed to apply this season.
How to Apply:
To apply for the contest participants must submit:
– Completed online Application Form.
– DVD recording or a link to YouTube video of their performance.
– A biography of applicant in MS Word format (not exceed 150 words). Include past participation in the competitions, festivals and other public events. Portrait photo in electronic format, yo be used for the competition brochure printing.
– Biography and photo should be e-mailed to [email protected].

Application Fee:
Application Fee for solo performers is $150.
Application Fee for Duo and Trio is $80 per Ensemble Member.
Application Fee are not refundable.

1. SOLO: OWN CHOICE OF MUSIC
2. DUET/ENSEMBLE: OWN CHOICE OF MUSIC
• One Piano: Four to Eight Hands
• There are FOUR levels of different age groups in this Category – with two to four performers.
• This category DOES NOT REQUIRE MEMORIZATION – although contestants are strongly encouraged to play from memory if at all possible, especially at the Prize Winners’ Concerts.
• Contestants will choose their own music: Original compositions and all creative arrangements are acceptable.
• Any combination of pieces by one composer will be accepted for this event.
• Whether entering with partner(s) of the same age group or with older partner(s) at a higher age group, the rules are: each contestant can enter more than one level but only once at each level with partner(s) from the proper age group and with different music for each entry. The oldest partner determines the age group.
• The contestants must time their pieces accurately and mark them clearly on the Entry.
• Contestants must upload the first 3 pages of each piece (each movement) at the time of their on-line application (unless the pieces are shorter than 3 pages long).
• Contestants must bring a copy of their music (no illegal photocopies) for the judges during the competition.
